The joke is about making a fuss around the room or house where the bride and groom would sleep. Moreover, their friends may mess up with their sleeping spot by spreading stuff allover the place and more amusing mischief.

In the past, it was believed that the wife’s tripping when going into her new house brings such an unlikable luck. Hence, fearing unpleasant omens and according to the Roman superstition, nowadays the husband would hold his bride and climb the stairs to help prevent any possible slipping

In Africa, being a virgin is a highly estimated issue. Hence, in some places, the new wife’s mom would give her money in case her daughter proves being still a virgin at that special eve. More surprisingly, relatives would search for blood spots on the bed’s white sheets to the extent that certain moms would wave the wives’ nightdress with the blood spots on them out of the window before whoever watching to prove the brides’ virginity. This does happen.

In Asia, at the ceremony’s eve, specially- designed candles at the shape of mythical birds are all lit as it is believed that this act would send away all the wicked ghosts and beings. After this, the couple would have their toast in decorated glasses with both the bride’s and groom’s arms are   entwined as a sign of a strong bond. Finally, they would offer the new wife dough to assure wealth and welfare in her life.
